The 40th International Churchill Conference will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland

The International Churchill Society was proud to host the Fortieth International Churchill Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, from October 5–7, 2023. This milestone gathering combined world-class scholarship with unforgettable experiences in some of the city’s most iconic venues.

Conference Highlights

Thursday, October 5

The conference opened in grand style aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia, where delegates were piped aboard to the State Dining Rooms. Guests enjoyed Pol Roger Champagne, canapés, private tours of the ship, and a dazzling private fireworks display—a fitting welcome to Edinburgh and the 40th conference.

Friday, October 6

Conference sessions began with the Stephen and Jane Poss Distinguished Churchill Lecture, alongside presentations from leading historians and commentators on Churchill’s life and legacy. The day concluded with an informal evening dinner that gave participants the chance to continue their discussions in a relaxed setting.

Saturday, October 7

The final day allowed time for exploration of Edinburgh before the conference concluded with a spectacular Gala Dinner at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa. The evening brought together members, scholars, and guests in celebration of both Churchill’s legacy and the enduring fellowship of the International Churchill Society.
