Churchill on the deck of ‘HMS Prince of Wales’, after the Atlantic Meeting, August 1941. He had made the outward journey across the Atlantic, travelling at high speed on board this same battleship (Britain’s newest), altering course in order to dodge Germany’s U-boats which were patrolling the seas. (The ‘HMS Prince of Wales’ was sunk only a few months later, off the coast of Malaya.)
