ICS 2026 International Churchill Conference – Churchill & America during America’s 250th!

Winston Churchill proudly described himself as “half American,” but his connection to the United States extended far beyond his mother, Jennie Jerome. His American ancestry, travels, friendships, and admiration for the nation’s founding principles shaped both his outlook and his leadership.

Churchill made sixteen visits to the United States during his lifetime, beginning with a youthful stop in New York in 1895. He returned for lecture tours, meetings with political and business leaders, wartime conferences, and visits with American presidents. From his early travels through New York and Philadelphia to his historic partnership with Franklin D. Roosevelt and later meetings with Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower, Churchill’s relationship with America evolved alongside his public life.

At the 2026 International Churchill Conference in Philadelphia, Allen Packwood, Katherine Carter, Randolph Churchill, and Robert Jerome will explore Churchill’s American roots and the family, historical, and institutional connections that continue to illuminate this important part of his life.

Held as America marks its 250th anniversary, this session promises a fascinating look at why Churchill’s relationship with the United States was so personal, so enduring, and so consequential.
