ICS 2026 International Churchill Conference – Churchill & America during America’s 250th!

This October in Philadelphia, the International Churchill Society’s 2026 conference, Churchill & America, will bring together leading historians, authors, and Churchillians to explore one of the most important relationships in modern history: the Anglo-American alliance between Britain and the United States.

Among the highlights of the conference will be a featured session, “President & Prime Minister: Ike & Winston,” with historian and author Jonathan W. Jordan.

Jordan is the author of the new book Ike and Winston: World War, Cold War, and an Extraordinary Friendship, a major study of the relationship between Dwight D. Eisenhower and Winston Churchill. He is also the author of Brothers, Rivals, Victors: Eisenhower, Patton, Bradley, and the Partnership That Drove the Allied Conquest in Europe, a New York Times bestseller.
The story of Eisenhower and Churchill is central to any serious understanding of the Second World War, the postwar settlement, and the emergence of the modern transatlantic alliance. Their relationship began in the crucible of war, when Eisenhower served as Supreme Allied Commander and Churchill as Britain’s wartime Prime Minister. It continued into the Cold War, when Eisenhower became President of the United States and Churchill returned to Downing Street.

Theirs was not a simple partnership. It was shaped by affection, respect, disagreement, strategic pressure, and the changing balance of power between Britain and America. Churchill saw in Eisenhower a soldier-statesman of unusual judgment and discipline. Eisenhower saw in Churchill a historic leader whose courage, imagination, and command of language had helped rally the free world at its darkest hour.

Together, they faced some of the greatest questions of the twentieth century: how to defeat Nazi Germany, how to manage Allied command, how to work with Stalin without illusion, how to preserve peace after victory, and how to respond to the new dangers of the nuclear age. Their friendship offers a deeply human window into leadership under pressure.

Jordan’s session will be especially timely for this year’s conference theme. Churchill & America is not only about Churchill’s American ancestry or his many visits to the United States. It is about the relationships, institutions, and shared ideals that shaped the Anglo-American alliance. Few relationships better capture that story than the one between Ike and Winston.

It has depended on friendship, resolve, and the ability of free peoples to stand together.
