October 29, 2019

The 36th International Churchill Conference will take place on October 29-31, 2019 at the Washington Georgetown Marriott in Washington, D.C. just a half-mile from the National Churchill Library and Center.

This year’s conference theme is Churchill: Masters of our Fate.

The month of the conference coincides with the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Churchill’s involvement in the Cold War (he famously coined the term “Iron Curtain” in 1946) will be explored by leading scholars.

The opening night reception will take place at Anderson House, the historic headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati, on Tuesday, October 29. Winston Churchill visited Anderson House during a trip to Washington, D.C. on January 16, 1952.

In place of Mt. Vernon, attendees may also choose to tour Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens in Washington that is the former residence of businesswoman, philanthropist, and collector Marjorie Merriweather Post. Hillwood is known for its decorative arts collection that focuses heavily on a Russian collection that includes Fabergé eggs and one of the country’s finest collections of orchids.
