Statesmanship & Rhetoric: How Churchill Led Britain to Fight On
Presented by Lew House
“He mobilized the English language and sent it into battle to steady his fellow countrymen and hearten those Europeans upon whom the long dark night of tyranny had descended.” -Edward R. Murrow, 1954
Winston S. Churchill’s leadership, exemplified through his classic orations, prepared his nation to stand alone against the onslaught of Nazi tyranny. During this time there were many, both in the British government and in other free democratic societies, who were unwilling or lacked Churchill’s foresight to risk all to confront Hitler’s regime. He was a voice in the wilderness, but what a voice! Valor, honor and freedom were Churchill’s key principles that he would not compromise. Tonight we shall be reminded of how this greatest of statesmen helped ensure the survival of freedom throughout the world.
