Churchill: The Life by Max Arthur

A stuttering boy with modest academic achievements, few people meeting the adolescent Winston Churchill could have dreamed that in his intellectual prime this giant of a political figure would change the course of the twentieth century.

Soldier, writer, orator, campaigner, statesman and tender family man – all facets of Churchill’s life have been brought together in this absorbing illustrated book. It includes never-before-published material, with letters to ‘Mama’ from the homesick, but rebellious schoolboy as well as hand-annotated notes of some of his major speeches and fascinating memorabilia, such as the poster for the reward for his capture during the Boer War and specially shot artefacts from family archives including his cigar and his Parliamentary dispatch box.

Churchill: The Life also showcases rarely seen photographs from his family albums, providing a more intimate portrait of Churchill as a romantic suitor and devoted husband to Clementine. As well as a talented polo player, his many leisure pursuits included painting Moroccan sunsets, hunting boar with Coco Chanel and bricklaying.
