He also loved Monaco. From 1945, he regularly visited Monte-Carlo and stayed at the Hotel de Paris for year-end festivities. In the 1960s, he stayed here on the invitation of his friend Aristotle Onassis and was accommodated on the top floor which has since been renamed the ‘Churchill Suite’ (and now costs from 11,715 euros a night), with its own private lift and panoramic views of Monaco harbour and the Prince’s Palace.
