The Churchill Centre welcomes your interest in our three-week NEH Summer Institute Winston Churchill and the Anglo-American Relationship.  Participants should plan to arrive in England by Sunday, July 11, 2010.  We will spend the first two weeks (July 11-23, 2010) at the Churchill Archives Centre, Churchill College, Cambridge.  On Saturday, July 24, we will depart for Goodenough College in London.  The seminar concludes in London a week later on Saturday morning, July 31.  The final sessions are held on Friday, and departures may be planned for Saturday.

This “Dear Colleague” letter consists of the following parts designed to answer the questions of any teacher interested in participating in this NEH-funded teacher institute.

  • Institute Rationale provides the background and rationale for the program, explaining why prime_ministeryou might wish to spend three weeks studying the incredible life and times of Winston Churchill.
  • Reading and Film introduces you to the books that you will read during the institute, and the film about Churchill’s life that you will watch together with your fellow teachers.
  • Research explains the fascinating research project you will be engaged in for two weeks at the Churchill Archives Centre in Cambridge, England, working with Churchill’s original papers and speeches.
  • Site Visits lists the exciting and interesting sites in England that are associated with Churchill’s life that you will visit during your three week stay.

The rest of the information in this section will provide everything you need to know to decide whether you wish to apply for this institute, including a resume of the institute faculty, information on where you will be staying, the stipend you will receive and the costs to anticipate, and how to apply.
