Upcoming Events Sponsored by Churchill Society Explore Conflicts from Past to Present

The International Churchill Society (ICS) is sponsoring a total of four events over the next two months that look at both history and current events that connect with Sir Winston Churchill. Two events will take place at the National Churchill Leadership Center (NCLC) on the campus of the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The other two are co-sponsored by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and will take place in London. ICS members can register to attend all events.

Then and Now: Churchill in His Time and in Ours (London): This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Winston Churchill. Historian Sir David Cannadine, a member of the ICS board or directors, will speak at RUSI about Churchill’s legacy as seen past and present. This event will take place in-person at RUSI on 13 March at 6:30 PM GMT. To register, please CLICK HERE.

Legacies of the Cold War (Washington): Hosted by the National Churchill Leadership Center (NCLC) and co-sponsored by the GW Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies and the GW Cold War Group. What are the lasting legacies of the Cold War? From technology to geopolitics, this panel of experts from the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs and Department of History will explore how the Cold War continues to inform the present day. This event will take place in person and online at the NCLC on 25 March at 7:30 PM EDT. To register, please CLICK HERE.

Churchill and the American Civil War (Washington): Join ICS Trustee Lee Pollock and ICS Executive Director Justin Reash as they discuss Winston Churchill’s study of the American Civil War. Half American himself, Winston Churchill was fascinated from childhood with the War Between the States. His understanding of the conflict deeply influenced his view of the United States and its people and of the nature of war itself. Always interested in the historical “what might have been,” Churchill wrote one of his most intriguing articles exploring what would have happened “If Lee Had NOT Won the Battle of Gettysburg.” This event will take place in person and online at the NCLC on 17 April at 7:00 PM EDT.
