Sir Winston’s Grandson Will Address the 2023 Churchill Conference in Edinburgh

The Rt Hon The Lord Soames of Fletching has been announced as the keynote speaker for the 2023 International Churchill Conference, which will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland October 5–7. To find out more information about the conference and to register, please CLICK HERE.

Lord Soames (formerly Sir Nicholas Soames) was born in 1948, the eldest child of Christopher Soames and Mary Churchill, the youngest daughter of Sir Winston and Clementine Churchill. After education at Eton and Mons Officer Cadet School, he was commissioned into the 11th Hussars. Subsequently he served as Equerry to HRH The Prince of Wales, now King Charles III.

Soames was a Conservative Member of Parliament from 1983 to 2019. During his long and distinguished career he held a number of senior roles, including serving as the Minister for Defence and as a Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. He has a specialist knowledge in the fields of Anglo-American defence matters and security in the Middle. Presently he serves as a Senior Advisor to Panmure, FMA Partners, and to a number of other companies.

Soames was made a Privy Counsellor in 2011 and knighted in 2014. He was appointed a Life Peer in October 2022 and is a member of the International Relations and Defence Committee of the House of Lords.
