May 10th marks the anniversary of the day in 1940 when King George VI, as reported on the BBC, “sent for Mr. Winston Churchill and asked him to form a government.” This year, best-selling author Erik Larson will join International Churchill Society Executive Director Justin Reash to discuss the historic significance of Churchill becoming prime minister.

After he became prime minister for the first time, Churchill wrote in his memoirs that “I felt as if I were walking with destiny, and that all my past life had been but a preparation for this hour and for this trial.”

Larson’s book The Splendid and the Vile, which chronicles Churchill’s first year as prime minister, became a runaway best seller. In their discussion, Larson and Reash will go deeper into the remarkable day Churchill took the helm and the dramatic series of events that led to his ascension to the premiership.

This free event will take place online at 2 pm EDT. To register, please CLICK HERE.
