The first two volumes of the official biography were written by Sir Winston’s son Randolph Churchill. Sir Martin Gilbert worked as a research assistant for Randolph and was asked to complete the monumental task after Randolph passed away in 1968. The remaining six volumes were produced over the course of twenty years. The final result is the most in-depth and authoritative biography ever written about Winston Churchill.
