Interactive Media Enables Expanded Quiz Features

Churchill_QuizThe popular Churchill Quiz, a feature in The Churchill Centre’s journal Finest Hour for more than twenty-five years, will now be published exclusively online through the Chartwell Bulletin and the website www.winstonchurchill.org. Quiz editor Jim Lancaster explains that this will make possible new ways to pose questions such as including audio and video clips as well as images of paintings and statues of Churchill and sites associated with his life and career. The Churchill Quiz will continue to be published quarterly. To see this month’s Quiz, please click on the link:

The Churchill Quiz was first published in the Winter 1987-88 issue of Finest Hour and was known as the “Churchill Trivia” column. The first question was: “Who was ‘F.E.’?” (Kudos if you know the answer without looking it up.) The format for the first issue was to ask twenty-four questions in six categories: Contemporaries, Literary, Miscellaneous, Personal, Statesmanship and War. This format has been consistently maintained in all the intervening years.

There have been three quiz editors to date. Barbara Langworth began the feature in Finest Hour #58 and continued through #92. Curt Zoller served as quiz master for issues #93 through #132, and Jim Lancaster has managed things since #133 in 2006. Jim re-named the column the “Churchill Quiz” and began sorting questions by order of diffiulty, with the easiet questions first.
