DENVER
By Carol House
The Rocky Mountain Churchillians hosted their 6th annual Winston S. Churchill birthday Dinner on November 19th at the Park Hill Golf Club.
Our featured speaker, gave an outstanding presentation based on his fine book, Winston Churchill: Soldier: The Military Life of a Gentleman at War by Douglas S. Russell and Sir Martin Gilbert (2009). The first full-length, fully researched biography of Churchill’s military career. Douglas Russell was educated at Grinnell College and the University of Iowa College of Law, and served in the United States Army, Military Intelligence. He is also the author of The Orders, Decorations and Medals of Sir Winston Churchill.
A lively group of 50 engaged Doug with many questions at the conclusion of his presentation. Doug also graciously signed copies of his book for those who brought along a copy.
The many returning Churchill fans were pleased to recognize and welcomed several who were attending their first Churchill event. We made every effort to inform them of the important activities of the Churchill Centre and Museum.
