Right Honourable Sir Winston Spencer Churchill Society of Alaska

The annual black tie dinner organized by the Right Honourable Sir Winston Spencer Churchill Society of Alaska, under the patronage of Churchill’s great-grandson Randolph Churchill, to celebrate the 152nd birthday of Sir Winston Spencer Churchill will be held in the Quarterdeck at the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage at half after seven o’clock on Monday, November 30, 2026. This year our guest of honor and after-dinner speaker is Steven F. Hayward, senior resident scholar at the Institute of Governmental Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and visiting lecturer at the UC Berkeley School of Law, who has written widely about Churchill and Reagan. Two days earlier, on the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, November 28, 2026, Professor Hayward will deliver the annual Chartwell Lecture on Churchill at the University of Alaska, Anchorage, from 7.30 to 9.00 p.m. The title of his lecture is “Winston Churchill—Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.” A new generation of “revisionists” are trying to make Churchill into an anti-hero, or erase his memory and lessons entirely. As the direct memories of Churchill fade with the passing of the World War II generation, political scientist and author Steven Hayward will review Churchill’s permanent legacy, and how it still offers—and will always offer—timeless perspectives on how the world works.
