January 1, 1970

The first two volumes of his History of the English Speaking Peoples were published in 1956 and the remaining two volumes over the next two years.

The History of the English-Speaking Peoples is unusual among Churchill’s oeuvre. He was particularly fond of adventures and drama, battles and campaigns, the story of war – with lots of detail, original documents and personal flavour – and these are the stories he told best. The Second World War was exactly what he excelled at; the personal recounting of his Second World War.
