The first meeting of Young Churchillians in the United States took place Monday, May 19 at the British Embassy in Washington. The seventy-five young professionals who gathered together represented careers in government, law firms, and business. The spirit of Winston Churchill, who stayed at the embassy during his post-war visits to the American capital, permeated the gathering.
International Churchill Society (ICS) Executive Director Lee Pollock spoke to the attendees about the mission of ICS to promote the life and legacy of Churchill. The embassy was represented by the Head of News Edward Roman and Isabelle Truong, the Planning and Strategic Communications Director.
The statue of Churchill in front of the embassy famously has one foot standing on American soil and one on British soil, that is the grounds of the embassy, representing Churchill’s Anglo-American parentage and that he was born a British subject who was awarded honorary American citizenship.
The first American chapter of Young Churchillians has organized a board of directors and is planning new events in the autumn. Those who are interested should contact Lee Pollock at [email protected]
