Herman is Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute and Senior Fellow at the Civitas Institute at the University of Texas-Austin. In 2020–21 he served as a Senior Advisor to the National Security Council. He is also a New York Times bestselling author, whose 2008 book Gandhi and Churchill was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. His 2012 book Freedom’s Forge: How American Business Produced Victory in World War II was named one of the best books of the year by The Economist and has been on the recommended reading lists of Secretaries of Defense, Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and members of Congress.
Lecture sponsors Stephen and Jane Poss state: “Dr. Herman, with his vast expertise on how the allies rearmed to defeat Nazi Germany and Japan in World War II, and his active roles as a policy adviser to government and the defense community, is perfectly situated to link the issues of Sir Winston Churchill’s life and times to the front-page challenges of today. We are immensely pleased that he will be speaking at the ICS Conference this year.”
This will be the fifth in a series of annual lectures at the annual Churchill Conference. Previous Poss Lecturers have included Lord (Andrew) Roberts, author of Churchill—Walking With Destiny; Tim Bouverie, author of Appeasement—Chamberlain, Hitler, Churchill and the Road to War, as well as the upcoming Allies at War; and Capt. Jerry Hendrix (Ret.), Senior Counselor at the National Security Council and author of To Provide and Maintain a Navy. Plan on joining us in Washington for this year’s example of how Churchill’s legacy remains relevant in today’s world.
