This framed piece measures 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches and is a reverse painting on glass. It was likely painted in Belgium after that country was liberated in 1944. A smiling Churchill is depicted as “rolling over” his frowning main anti-Axis adversary, while inflicting pain on his way to an Allied victory.
This unusual piece is hand painted but unfortunately is not signed by the artist. Original pieces of art are always fun to collect and include with the mass-produced pieces that supported the Prime Minister and the war effort.
Brian Krapf’s book A Churchill Treasury: Sir Winston’s Public Service through Memorabilia is now available in the UK and the US.
