International Churchill Society of Italy

Italy is home to the newest chapter of the International Churchill Society. ICS Italy’s inaugural events will take place in Rome on 29 and 30 November to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Winston Churchill’s birth in 1874. Salvatore Murtas, president and founder of the chapter made the announcement in London during the 2024 Churchill conference last month.

The program will start on the afternoon of 29 November with tours in English of the Palazzo Montecitorio, home to the Italian parliament’s Chamber of Deputies, and the Palazzo San Macuto. Conference sessions will be held starting at 5 pm in the Sala del Refettorio of the Palazzo San Macuto.

The conference will be opened by the Hon. Lorenzo Fontana, President of the Chamber of Deputies, and will continue with keynote speakers the Hon. Carlo Nordio, Minister of Justice, and Daniele Capezzone, Editorial Director of Libero. Distinguished guests will include the British ambassador, the Rt. Hon. the Lord (Edward) Llewellyn OBE, Jennie Churchill, a great-granddaughter of Sir Winston, and former ICS chairman Laurence Geller CBE.

On Saturday the 30th—Sir Winston’s birthday—a fundraising luncheon will take place with guest of honor Andrew Roberts (now Lord Roberts of Belgravia), author of Churchill: Walking with Destiny, speaking about Churchill’s life.
