Callow began his theatrical career working in the box office of the nascent National Theatre following an offer from its leader, Laurence Olivier. His career on stage started in 1973, but it was his performance as Mozart in the original stage production of Amadeus in 1979 that first brought him notoriety. Callow has since gone on to appear in many plays and movies. As a director, his repertoire includes opera, and as a writer his subjects include Charles Dickens, whom he has portrayed many times, Charles Laughton, and Orson Welles. In 1999, he was created a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.
Events at this year’s conference will begin with an evening reception at Dartmouth House, the home of the English-Speaking Union, on Thursday, October 24th. Conference sessions will commence at the hotel on the 25th, followed by a reception that evening at historic Lancaster House. The closing gala dinner at the National Gallery will be on the 26th. Some conference events will also take place at the Royal United Services Institute in Whitehall.
Further details and updates about the conference will be posted here and on the ICS website during the coming months.
