New Activities and New Chapters

The International Churchill Society (ICS) maintains a busy calendar at the international, national, and local levels. We have now opened registration for this year’s international conference in Edinburgh. The National Churchill Leadership Center (NCLC) in Washington D.C. has opened registration for two upcoming events that can viewed online for free, and local chapters of ICS from Florida to Brazil have reported on their recent activities.

WASHINGTON: NCLC proram director Justin Reash will host two events in the coming weeks that you can follow online. On Monday, 27 February at 7pm EST, Reash will interview author Iain Dale about his new book on the American presidency. For details and to register, please CLICK HERE. Then, on Wednesday, 3 March at 7 pm EST, Reash will host a panel of authorities at the George Washington University about the first year of the war in Ukraine. FLORIDA: The new Florida–Gulf Coast Chapter of ICS hosted its inaugural meeting on December 1, 2022 in Sarasota. Seventy-three people attended a talk by Professor Justus Doenecke about “Churchill and FDR: Diplomats at War.” Doenecke stressed how Churchill’s relentless efforts paved the way to an exceptionally close relationship between the two leaders. The chapter’s next gathering will be in Sarasota on April 14, when the speaker will be Lee Pollock, former Executive Director and current Trustee of ICS, who will present “Winston Churchill in Cuba and Florida from Rebellion to Cold War.”

BRAZIL: The inaugural meeting of the International Churchill Society of Brazil took place in São Paolo on 30 November 2022, Winston Churchill’s 148th birthday. A sold-out room of 170 people attended the event, which was recorded in its entirety. A highlight of the meeting was a message delivered from England via the internet by ICS President Randolph Churchill congratulating the members of the new chapter. All was recorded and can be viewed on YouTube. Randolph’s remarks can be viewed at the 19:00 minute point in the first of the three videos that cover the complete event.
