Ferguson Speaks!

On 20 March, famed historian Niall Ferguson, Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, joined Executive Director Michael F. Bishop at the National Churchill Library and Center for a conversation about his new book, The Square and the Tower: Networks and Power, From the Freemasons to Facebook. Before a large and enthusiastic audience, Ferguson discussed networks and hierarchies throughout history, Facebook’s current travails, and the way in which Churchill has helped inspire him in challenging times.
Ferguson urged that renewed scholarly attention be given to the Churchillian networks that helped the future prime minister navigate through the political wilderness and fashion a winning wartime coalition. The event was aired on C-SPAN’s BookTV on 28 April and can be watched by clicking here.
