Beautiful Composition Depicts Landscape in the South of France

A distant view of a town in the south of France by Sir Winston Churchill signed 3

An original painting by Sir Winston Churchill depicting a landscape in the south of France is now being offered for sale by a private owner and would be a spectacular and important acquisition for any Churchill enthusiast or collector of his work. Titled “A Distant View of a Town in the South of France” and completed around 1948, this significant oil on canvas features the broad brushstrokes and vivid colors that are a staple of Churchill’s art. The painting is signed “WSC” in the lower left. Handsomely framed, the canvas is 21″ high x 25 3/4″ wide and in impeccable condition.

This work was previously in the private collection of a Churchill family member. The current owner has agreed upon sale to make a generous donation to support the educational programs of The Churchill Centre. The work is referenced in the definitive catalogue of Churchill paintings by David Coombs and Minnie Churchill and was included in the landmark 1998 exhibit in London, “Painting as a Pastime:  Winston Churchill and His Life as a Painter.”

For more information about this painting and the opportunity to acquire the ultimate in Churchill collectables, please contact The Churchill Centre’s Executive Director Lee Pollock at [email protected] or call 312-263-5637.
