Rare Footage Shown to Leaders of British Film Industry
On April 4th The Royal Channel released rare colour film of Winston and Clementine Churchill visiting with the Royal Family at Balmoral Castle in 1952. The brief clip was shown the night before to 300 members of the British film industry who were hosted by HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in the state apartments of Windsor Castle. Guests included Sir Kenneth Branagh, Sir Christopher Lee, Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and Star Wars creator George Lucas.
The clip itself is only 48 seconds in length and without sound. The Churchills are seen observing a fishing expedition with both Sir Winston and a very young Prince Charles appearing in a playful mood. Churchill is seen holding a large bit of driftwood. Recalling the event in a BBC documentary aired last year, Prince Charles said that he remembered distinctly hearing Sir Winston say that he was “waiting on the Loch Ness Monster.” Also glimpsed is Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother while towards the end the Queen herself appears to be keeping a tight hold on Princess Anne.
