Bequest. Many members will remember Peggy Mouncer, a friend of the late Armido Valori: they both used regularly to attend ICS(UK) events. Peggy has recently died and has very generously left £3,000 to TCC-UK: a wonderful surprise.

  • 22nd March 2011 Richard Toye on Churchill & the Empire: Myth & Reality

Lectures begin at 7.00 pm; tickets can be booked by telephoning 020-7416-5439 (claiming a discounted fee due to TCC-UK membership @ £12.50) or by on-line booking by following this link.

International Churchill Conference, 2011. The dates for this major event, to take place in London – the first conference to be held in this country since 2004 – have now been fixed as follows:

October 2011

  • Wednesday 26th, Welcome reception at Churchill War Rooms
  • Thursday 27th, Main conference programme/Gala dinner
  • Friday 28th, Conference continues/Programme ends
  • Saturday 29th, Optional visits to e.g. Blenheim/Chartwell

The theme of the programme is likely to be the Special Relationship (2011 being the 70th anniversary of the US entry into the Second World War).

Conference Helpers. Volunteers are required, to help with Registration at the 2011 conference; this is a key task, to ensure the smooth running of the proceedings. Please give names to the Secretary.

The English-Speaking Union: Churchill Lecture. The ESU’s annual Churchill lecture will be given by General the Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank at Guildhall on Tuesday 16th November at 5.30 pm for 6.15 pm. Lord Guthrie was Chief of the Defence Staff in 1997-2001 and his address will focus on the threats of aggression being currently faced. Tickets @ £45 can be obtained through Susan Conway at the ESU: 020-7529-1582.

Annual General Meeting. This is expected to revert to the traditional format by being combined with a visit to a Churchill ‘site’. The provisional date and venue are Saturday 16th April 2011 at Harrow [to be confirmed].

Management. John Hirst, who holds the combined posts of Secretary and Membership Secretary, is expected to retire at the next AGM in April 2011. Volunteers are urgently sought, to take over one or both of these roles. Please make inquiries to the Secretary, who can give details of the requirements.
