Help Preserve Churchill

The International Churchill Society (ICS) is dedicated to preserving and promoting the historic legacy of Sir Winston Churchill. For the benefit of scholars, students, and Churchillians, the Society’s activities, publications, and programs are conducted through the joint resources of the National Churchill Library and Center (NCLC) at the George Washington University in Washington, DC and the National Churchill Museum (NCM) at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.

Winston Churchill is widely regarded as one of the greatest statesmen of the 20th century–and one of the greatest leaders of all time. He is most widely known as the victorious British Prime Minister during the Second World War, but there are many more dimensions to him than his sixty years in British politics.

Born of an American mother and a British father, he personified from birth the “special relationship” between the United States and the United Kingdom. A fearless soldier and brilliant writer, he chronicled his worldwide adventures in arms and propelled himself into politics. A Member of Parliament for six decades, he waged a lonely crusade in the 1930s to warn his fellow citizens about the rise of Hitler and Nazism. As wartime Prime Minister, he became an international symbol of defiance and determination.

“…it is better to be both right and consistent. But if you have to choose—you must choose to be right.”

Churchill’s youngest daughter Mary Soames was, until her death in 2014, Patron of the International Churchill Society. Lady Soames, who adored her father, instructed that the mission of the Society should always be to ‘Keep the record accurate and the memory green.’

Towards this aim, The International Churchill Society (ICS) is dedicated to preserving and promoting the historic legacy of Sir Winston Churchill.

“…It is where the balance quivers, and the proportions are veiled in mist, that the opportunity for world-saving decisions presents itself.”

But the Society’s mission is not only the preservation of the past but also the shaping of the present and the future.  Churchill is a constant and living inspiration to leaders in all fields, from politics and the military to business and scholarship.  His life and career offer insights into some of the most challenging foreign policy issues of our age. And his indomitable will in the face of the most difficult circumstances has inspired millions around the world.

We invite you to consider a corporate membership in the Society and to help us not only keep alive the historical memory of Churchill but promote his legacy for new generations.
