In a race that would later be the inspiration for the film ‘Chariots of Fire’, Eric Liddel stormed to victory in the 400m. Having famously refused to participate in the 100m because the preliminary heats were run on a Sunday, Liddel emerged a double medallist claiming bronze in the 200m and gold in the 400m.
