Sport also played an important role in improving health and wellbeing amongst female workers and many factories developed their own football teams. The most famous of these were Dick, Kerr’s Ladies FC in Preston who were founded in 1917. They continued to enjoy success until women were banned from playing in Football League grounds in 1921.
