Churchill had long been a strong advocate of the need for modern war weaponry. Although a cavalry man, he’d experienced the realities of war at first hand.

Horses – and men – could not negotiate this ‘no-man’s land’ without massive losses. Churchill championed the development of the land Battleship while at the Admiralty– and what was later to become the tank was born.

The First World War came to an end sooner than Churchill expected. Lloyd George became the head of a coalition of Conservatives and Coalition Liberals and in December 1918 he achieved a massive majority and Churchill was victorious in Dundee.
