The Berlin Olympics of 1936 provided the perfect stage for Hitler to demonstrate to the world the efficiency and strength of Nazi Germany and to prove the dominance of the Aryan race. However it was Jesse Owens – a man deemed ‘racially inferior’ by Hitler – who stole the show, winning four gold medals and defeating Germany’s own long-jumper Lutz Long along the way.
