Like many aristocratic men of the time, Churchill had been brought up to be able to ride, hunt foxes and fire a shotgun at game. During his youth, he regularly went pheasant shooting and was often seen out hunting for foxes or wild boar (although he gave up the former when he got married).
He even went deer stalking when staying at Balmoral as a guest of the King.
