William Bourke Cockran (1854–1923), the New York Democrat and noted political orator who almost certainly influenced Churchill in the early days. Bourke Cockran was his mother’s lover and Churchill stayed in his Fifth Avenue home during his week-long first visit to Manhattan in November 1895.
