Churchill inspecting Coventry Cathedral ruins

Churchill inspecting the ruins of Coventry Cathedral on 28 September 1941. The ruins have been left as they are here, as a garden of remembrance. A new cathedral was built alongside the ruin in the 1950s, designed by Basil Spence, who insisted that the two buildings should be regarded as forming one church.
