Location: Chartwell
Chartwell, the former home of Winston Churchill is to be the evocative setting for a spectacular 70th anniversary Battle of Britain concert on September 4.
The concert, which also marks the anniversary of the beginning of the Blitz, will feature the Central Band of the Royal Air Force supported by a range of aircraft displays, period film footage and theatrical performances.
Visitors, who are being encouraged to bring picnics and relax on Chartwell’s sloping lawns, will see aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a dog fight between the two main aircraft of the battle, a Spitfire and ME109 once again taking to the skies above Kent.
A Spitfire will take to the skies as part of the concert.
The team behind the Channel 4 series Blitz Street have been drafted in to recreate the sights and sounds of the Battle of Britain and take the audience back to the darkest days of the Blitz.
“Recreating the feel of The Blitz as part of the live performance is going to be a tough job,” said Charlie Adcock whose of Event Horizon team will be providing the special effects and pyrotechnics. “Blitz Street” was a very enjoyable project but nothing beats performing live.”
The Military HistoryTM Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary Concert is taking place at the National Trust Chartwell on September 4 2010 in support of the Royal Air Force Association. Tickets are available from www.synergyeventsuk.com or 01959 572277.
