The Place to Find All Things Churchill

Churchilliana The World of Churchill Collectables: Chalkware

In honor of D-Day, 6 June 1944, we have included a pair of Second World War era chalkware statuettes. These depict Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery. Monty’s service as D-Day’s Ground Forces Commander-in-Chief was just one of his many wartime duties, titles, and operational roles.

The statuettes stand four inches tall and are well executed likenesses of the prime minister and field marshal. No manufacturer details were included, so we do not know who produced them. They are, however, made of the chalkware that typifies the period. We are confident, therefore, that they are of wartime production.

Given the popularity of these two leaders, it stands to reason these items would be produced to display on shelves, mantels, or elsewhere in a patriotic wartime British home. The pair of statuettes make a wonderful addition to any collection. If you see them in a salesroom or at a fair, be sure to bring them home!
