Churchill Centre Organizes Symposium at Aspen Institute

The Churchill Centre recently organized a highly successful three-day Churchill symposium for the Aspen Institute, one of the country’s largest and most prestigious think tanks. Held at the Institute’s campus in Aspen, CO in early February, the symposium was coordinated by Centre Executive Director Lee Pollock and included presentations by the Chair of the Centre’s Board of Academic Advisers, James W. Muller, well-known Churchill scholar John H. Maurer (Chair of the Strategy Department at the U.S. Naval War College) and Steven Hayward, currently Visiting Scholar at the University of Colorado.

The symposium was attended by some fifty Institute Trustees and Fellows and included a wide range of presentations and events with an opening reception hosted by Aspen City Councilor Adam Frisch and a Trustees dinner lead by Institute Executive Vice President Elliot Gerson. Presentations by Professors Muller, Maurer and Hayward covered a wide range of subjects under the headings of, “The Education of Winston Churchill”, “Churchill as Statesman and War Leader” and “Churchill’s Ideas: Past, Present and Future”. Participants were provided with specially selected readings from Churchill works such as “My Early Life”, “Thoughts and Adventures” and “The Dream”, along with extracts from authors such as William Manchester. Each session included wide-ranging audience participation and discussion.
