Josiah Bunting III, Chairman of the English-Speaking Union, Will Address 31st International Churchill Conference

Josiah_Bunting_IIIJosiah Bunting IIIThe Churchill Centre has announced the dinner speakers for its upcoming conference in New Orleans. The speaker for Friday, 4 April will be distinguished historian Josiah Bunting III. Bunting was recently elected Chairman of the English-Speaking Union of the United States. His published works include a biography of Ulysses S. Grant, and he served as principal curator for the “Grant and Lee in the Civil War” exhibit at the New York Historical Society. Bunting, an alumnus of the Virginia Military Institute, is now at work on a biography of fellow VMI graduate Gen. George C. Marshall, the man Churchill described as “the noblest Roman of them all.”

The Theme of this year’s conference is “Churchill: Fighting and Writing.”ย Conference sessions will be held in the Loews Hotel New Orleans. Registration will include free admission to tour the National World War II Museum of the United States and to watch the award-winning 4D cinematic experience narrated by Tom Hanks,ย Beyond All Boundaries. The conference will culminate on Saturday, 5 April with a Gala Dinner in the Museum’s Freedom Pavilion underneath aircraft that flew during the war. For early arrivals on Wednesday, April 2, the local committee is hosting a special reception to be held in the Fenner Home, the house in the lovely Garden District of New Orleans where Confederate President Jefferson Davis died. There will also be walking tour of the French Quarter and an optional dinner at a traditional New Orleans restaurant, Arnaud’s. During the following days, ample time has been set aside for all conference participants to tour the National World War II Museum and other sites in this beautiful, French heritage city of jazz and creole cuisine.

WW_II_MuseumAn optional pre-conference tour of the Museum’s weapons vault is being offered. “Call of Duty” is a unique experience, limited to the first 60 people, to visit the Museum’s vault and to handle weapons used by Allied and German soldiers during the war.

Basic registration is $450 for members and includes the opening Welcome Reception, all conference sessions, two luncheons, Friday reception and dinner, and free admission to the Museum. The optional closing night Gala Dinner will feature a New Orleans menu prepared by Chef John Besh. Registration materials soon will be sent out and posted on the Centre’s website.

NOLO-LogoFull-time teachers and academics at middle school, high school and college level may register at a reduced price of $100 that includes all conference sessions and luncheons. Arrangements have also been made to provide complimentary registration to all conference sessions and luncheons for up to 50 students (high school and college).
