Author Alex Kershaw and The Queen’s Royal Hussars to Join ICS Meeting in Washington

Early-bird tickets for the 42nd Annual International Churchill Conference, which will be held in Washington, D.C. October 9 to 11, 2025, are currently on sale. Alex Kershaw, author of The Longest Winter, an acclaimed history of the Battle the Bulge, has now joined the list of speakers. Additionally, Ron and Eleanor Luke will once again generously sponsor the participation of officers from Winston Churchill’s former regiment The Queen’s Royal Hussars. Kershaw’s first book The Bedford Boys became a New York Times bestseller in 2002. In it, he described the heroic actions of men from Bedford, Virginia, who landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. His 2012 book, The Liberator: One World War II Soldier’s 500-Day Odyssey from the Beaches of Sicily to the Gates of Dachau, tells the story of a Texas-born officer in the 157th Infantry Regiment of the 45th Infantry Division, who participated in four amphibious invasions in Europe and commanded the Thunderbird unit that liberated Dachau eighty years ago next month.

The appearance of officers of the Queen’s Royal Hussars has become one of the most popular elements of the Churchill conference. The modern descendant of the regiment in which Churchill served in the days of Queen Victoria, today’s Hussars are an armoured regiment equipped with Challenger 2 tanks. They proudly describe themselves as “Churchill’s Own.” Having a picture with the Hussars in their dress uniforms has become a ”must” element of the International Conference.

Be sure to join us in Washington for these and other exciting elements. Additional speakers will be announced in the coming months.

A tribute, join us
