On this date, the 70th anniversary of the British declaration of war, a debate – arranged by Intelligence Squared – will take place at the Methodist Central Hall, Storey’s Gate, Westminster from 6.45 pm till 8.30 pm (doors open at 6.00 pm). The motion will be that This House believes that Winston Churchill was more of a liability than an asset to the free world. It will be proposed by Professor Norman Stone, Pat Buchanan (who was twice a candidate for the Republican nomination for the US Presidency) and Nigel Knight; opposing it will be Richard Overy, Anthony Beevor and Andrew Roberts.
