Philip Mould OBE, the foremost expert in British portraiture, is offering for sale a bronze statue of Churchill, his son and grandson, by Willem Verbon (1921-2003). Philip has specialised in British art for over twenty-five years and was Works of Art Adviser to the House of Commons and the House of Lords from 1988 to 2011. He works closely with private collectors and institutions to build their art collections, has a gallery in Dover Street, Mayfair, London, UK, and is widely consulted by the media. He is the presenter, with Fiona Bruce, of the BBC series Fake or Fortune?
The photograph on the right also shows Churchill, his son Randolph and his grandson Winston in their ceremonial dress. The photo was taken by the American photographer Toni Frissell, at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II; this photograph provides evidence for both the identity of Churchill’s grandson in Verbon’s sculpture and provides an accurate date for this work.
