SUMMARY:Churchill and Blenheim Palace Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Following the webcast\, the highly anticipated Churchill and Blenheim Palace exhibition will open on September 18. The exhibition will feature a broad range of extraordinary artifacts\, providing a glimpse into the extraordinary affection Churchill had for his ancestral home. \nA centerpiece of the exhibition is a scale model of Blenheim Palace as large as a queen-size bed. The model was created for and exhibited in the Churchill Pavilion at the 1964–65 World’s Fair in New York City. It was commissioned by the Hallmark Greeting Card Company\, whose founder\, Joyce Hall\, was an enthusiastic Churchillian. The model was built in Independence\, Missouri\, the home of President Harry S Truman\, who brought Churchill to Westminster College in 1946 to deliver what became known as the “Iron Curtain” speech. \nSeptember 18 Opening Events\n2:00 p.m. CDT\nFrom Birth to the Great Beyond: Winston Churchill’s Legacy in 2024\nGallery Talk (Part of Westminster College’s Hancock Symposium) \n3:30-5:30 pm CDT\nChurchill and Blenheim Palace Opening Reception*\n*Free with ANCM Admission (ANCM Members Admitted Free)

SUMMARY:Churchill in Cartoons: Satirising a Statesman
DESCRIPTION:Churchill once wrote\, ‘I always loved cartoons’\, but complained that cartoonists ‘have great power indeed.’ \nThis free exhibition at IWM London marks 150 years since Winston Churchill’s birth\, uncovering how satirical cartoons influenced public perception during Churchill’s lifetime\, and how they shape our understanding of his role in history today. \nChurchill consciously created his own distinctive image. This included his ever-present cigar and wartime ‘V’ sign. These visual props\, along with his high-profile and often controversial political career\, made him a cartoonist’s dream. \nYou’ll find cartoons spanning Churchill’s long career in the public eye\, from his early years as a young politician to his time as Britain’s wartime Prime Minister\, and more recent examples of his image being used to draw parallels with modern day politicians. Created by artists from around the globe\, this collection of cartoons offers international perspectives on Churchill’s political career and legacy\, both celebratory and condemning. \nWe recommend allowing around 20-30 minutes to visit Churchill in Cartoons. Visit our Second World War Galleries to discover more about the most devastating conflict in modern global history\, or visit our temporary exhibition War and the Mind to explore the psychological dimensions of war.
